Jetset Cine Rigging

Requirements #
Jetset Cine uses an iPhone connected to a cine camera to accurately calibrate the cine lens optics and 3D offset from the iPhone.
For this to be accurate, a few goals are critical:
- Rigidity: once the phone and lens are calibrated to each other, moving the iPhone accidentally will disrupt the calibration. You want this to stay locked.
- Light weight: to balance the rig on a lightweight gimbal like a RS2 or RS3, the weight needs to be kept to a minimum.
- Cooler clearance: when running an iPhone Magsafe cooler (recommended), the iPhone cage can’t get in the way of the cooler mount.
We’ll list some of the rigging setups we use from different manufacturers below.
Smallrig Basics #
The core components of this are the phone cage, the camera cage, a set of 15mm carbon fiber rails, a set of 2 rail blocks, (optionally) a side handle, and 4x 1/4″ washers as spacers.
Camera Cage #

(Blackmagic cage shown, but substitute specific cage for your camera)
iPhone Cage #

(iPhone 15 Pro Max cage shown, but substitute specific cage for your camera)
15mm Rail Blocks #

These mount onto the iPhone cage and either on top of the camera cage itself or onto the side handle.
15mm Carbon Rails #

This link goes to the 6″ versions which work well for most rigging setups. Longer versions available.
Side Handle (Optional) #

This handle is optional but provides a good mount for the 15mm rail blocks that keeps the Jetset iPhone lens closely centered to the cine camera lens.
Our optical calibration can handle misalignment between the two lenses, but the more closely they are aligned, the more accurate the yellow ‘aiming reticule’ overlay inside Jetset will be to the actual cine camera view.
1/4″ Washers #

These are needed between the rail block mounts and the mounting points on the iPhone and camera cage, as the included machine screws are just a little too long.
You only need 4, but they come in packages of 100, so share them with your team.
Blackmagic Assembly Example #

This is an example of the above components mounted on a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema camera using the top mount of the cage. The 3 holes on the side handle will also fit the spacing of the rail mounts.
For rigging onto a gimbal or tripod/dolly, the top mount is usually preferred, and the side handle can be removed.
If you look closely, you can see where the 1/4″ washers are inserted between the rail block mounts and the iPhone cage.
Sony FX3 Assembly Example #

This shows Jetset Cine rigged onto a Sony FX3 camera balanced on a DJI RS3 gimbal.
Sony FX3/fx30 Cage #

For rigging onto the FX3, we’ll use the top mount. To fit the rail blocks, one additional component is needed, which is a ‘cheese plate’.
Cheese Plate #

The center holes in the above cheese plate align with the top mounting holes of the FX3 cage, and the hole spacing away from the center aligns with the hole spacing of the rail blocks for a clean mount.
You may need to use the 1/4″ washers to mount the cheese plate to the top mount of the FX30 cage.
Power #
The Accsoon Seemo can power both the iPhone it is connected to, and the cooler mentioned below. It uses a standard NP-F type battery, so you can put a big battery on the SeeMo and it will power phone and cooler for hours.
Cooling #
For most iPhones, especially the earlier 12/13/14 models, it’s highly recommended to use an external cooler. You’ll usually want to use a MagSafe type cooler, as it’s compatible with the above cage.
The below coolers can be powered with a USB-C 5V cable directly from the Accsoon SeeMo.
