Loading 3D Scenes with iCloud

All right. In this tutorial we’ll walk through a simple way to transfer USDZ files from your desktop to Jetset via iCloud using a web browser. As you do more model creation, you’ll probably want to install iCloud for Windows so you can save directly to your device from Inside Blender, but transferring through the web browser is a good introduction to how this works, and it’s a good fallback.

[00:00:22] Logging into iCloud on the Browser

So: on your PC, go ahead and log into iCloud , on your browser at icloud.com. Sign in and use the same Apple ID that your iPad or iPhone is using and go through authentication.

And then we’ll go to iCloud Drive and pick Browse to get a top level directory. And you can make sub directories, but the Model Open browser in Jetset will default to this level, so it’s a good place to start.

[00:00:48] Creating New Model Directory

So we’re gonna make a directory click here called MyUSDZ. And click here to go into that directory.

So now if you have an existing USDZ model, you can drag and drop it right into the directory..

[00:01:02] Dragging and Dropping USDZ Files

So we’ll drag our baked chamber model into the directory . It’s gonna upload, so then you can open up that same directory in Jetset with the Model->Open menu, and pick the model and load it.

[00:01:14] Where Jetset Stores Takes in iCloud

While we’re here, note that iCloud automatically pushes recorded video files to a named project folder in iCloud that matches the path in the Jetset Project Folder page.

So we’ll go to browse top level. That was Jetset in our case, iPhone, and then TestTakes was the one in the tutorial. And so the recorded files are saved in dated sub directories under this folder.

[00:01:35] Downloading Take Files

Now, we could download these folders from the browser one by one and the files in them, but there’s a couple of better ways to do this. So we can either download them through iCloud for Windows, or even better, we can do a direct transfer of those take files over your local area network with Autoshot, and we’ll go through that file transfer method in more detail in the Autoshot chapters.

All right, that’s it for iCloud on the browser.
